Lets face it, its unusual
for managers and staff to relish the idea of manual handling training.
Unfortunately, the whole area has a bad name due to a host of unhelpful
and quite frankly boring “lift & shift, bend-your-knees”
lectures that many people have had to endure over the years. This
is unfortunate because in our experience manual handling training
can be useful and informative.
Our Manual Handling workshop is designed to be interesting and fun.
It is run by physiotherapists with extensive experience of Manual
Handling in Industry. Their clinical knowledge allows the sessions
to be interactive and helpful, tailored to the participants.
Our aim is for all participants to leave with a good understanding
of how the body works and why certain movements and postures are
bad. We teach participants to recognise risk and most importantly,
how to avoid or minimise it.
The focus of the sessions is on dealing with real handling issues
at work by actually conducting them. During the practical sessions,
relevant issues (both good and bad) are identified and then discussed
by the group in a participative and problem-solving manner.
The course satisfies the training requirements of the Manual Handling
Regulations (1992).
Manual Handling Risk Assessor Training
We also offer training for manual handling risk assessors. The
emphasis is on generating a thorough understanding of the body,
how to identify the risk associated with manual handling and how
to manage it. Plenty of practice is the only way to build confidence
so we aim to spend more than fifty percent of the course time conducting
assessments.
